However, the figure differs from state to state, so how much is it for Georgia?

Square, a financial service company, conducted a study to find out. The site's researchers measured the July 2017 credit and debit card transactions of more than 2 million sellers, including small businesses and popular chains, across the 50 states and Washington, D.C.

After analyzing the results, the analysts found that Georgians tipped 16.4 percent, which was the same as the nationwide average. The state fell into the middle range, tying with Montana, Illinois, Florida and Oregon.

Hawaii was last on the list, with a tipping average of 14.8 percent, and Idaho was No. 1, with a tipping average of 17.4 percent.

Square also considered the places with the highest earners in the United States, noting that the lowest-tipping states, including Hawaii, D.C. and California, were home to some of the richest in the country.

They also observed that lower-income states, such as Mississippi and West Virginia, were home to some of the most generous givers.
