More than 30 sheriffs have switched their support to the Democratic challenger in the race for attorney general.

Democrat Greg Hecht’s campaign said Friday the sheriffs include nearly 10 Republicans. The sheriff’s, including Fulton County Sheriff Ted Jackson, had previously been on a list of those endorsing incumbent Republican Sam Olens.

Still, Olens counts the support of more than 80 of the state’s 159 sheriffs, the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Benevolent Association.

A recent poll showed the race tightening. The SurveyUSA poll conducted for WXIA in Atlanta showed Olens leading Hecht 46 percent to 43 percent, within the margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.
