The I-85 HOT lanes continue to charge steeper prices, as the toll price reached a five-month high this week.

On Thursday, the price for a full-length commute reached $4.84 from about 7 to 8:30 a.m., according to a spokeswoman for the State Road and Tollway Authority, Malika Reed Wilkins.

The toll price rises with traffic demand, aiming to keep the lane flowing at 45 mph or higher.

The highest price ever remains $5.45, charged during the first week the lanes opened last year.

Low traffic after the Oct. 1 launch forced the state to lower the toll price to attract cars. The price has been creeping back up since. The SRTA board has capped the price at 90 cents per mile.
