A regional agency reaffirmed Georgia Perimeter College’s accreditation Thursday and lifted a financial warning previously levied against the college.

The decision came a year after the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools voted to keep watch on the college, which first drew its attention after reporting a $25 million budget shortfall in 2012.

After the agency’s vote, Georgia Perimeter will remain accredited for at least the next 10 years.

“This is the last item of business related to the college’s fiscal year 2012 financial crisis,” said Robb Watts, interim president for Georgia Perimeter. “The college is closing this chapter in its history.”

Accreditation designates that a college meets common academic and financial standards. If attending an accredited college, students can receive federal grants and loans and are more likely to have their credits or degrees accepted by other colleges.

“This is a very good day for the college,” Watts said.
