A bill that would allow people who tour distilleries to take a free sip passed the state House 146-20 Wednesday.

Rep. Rusty Kidd, I-Milledgeville, showed representatives how much the half-ounce sample his House Bill 514 would allow as a sample by bringing a small cup of water to the floor during the short debate.

Kidd pitched his bill as one that could help the small craft distilleries that have sprung up in Georgia, including one in Milledgeville, and could boost tourism the way laws passed in previous sessions have allowed tastings in Georgia's wineries.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
