The vino gurus over at Wine Spectator recently named 57 Georgia eateries among the world's best restaurants with top-notch wine selections.

The 2019 Restaurant Awards program honors 3,800 dining destinations from all 50 states and 79 countries. To determine who makes the list, experts conduct site visits and inspections, judging restaurants on three different levels: the Award of Excellence , the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award. There are 2,447; 1,244; and 100 winners in each category, respectively.

Restaurants in the Award of Excellence category have a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, but those in the next tier “offer more extensive selections with significant vintage depth and excellent breadth across multiple regions,” according to Wine Spectator.

To make it to the elite Grand Award stage, restaurants must demonstrate a “serious breadth of top producers, outstanding depth in mature vantages, excellent harmony with the menu and superior presentation.”

While no Georgia spots earned the coveted top honors, 14 did make it to the second tier.

“We’re pleased to shine a spotlight on the destinations around the world that show devotion to their wine program, while also creating a comprehensive global dining guide for our readers to enjoy,” Wine Spectator editor Marvin R. Shanken said in a statement. “Both novice wine lovers and seasoned sommeliers alike actively seek and frequent restaurants with exciting, well-curated wine lists. Bravo to all the 2019 recipients—we raise a glass to you.”
