A Jamaican restaurant in Stockbridge had unlabeled bottles of Irish moss fresh juice and sorrel fresh juice for sale which caused concern for a Henry County health inspector.

In addition, none of the juices had expiration dates, the inspector said.

The juices are made and distributed by a food service in DeKalb County. The manager at Jamaica Jerk Joint, 446 Eagles Landing Parkway, said when bottles are delivered without labels he just prints them himself and tapes them on the product.

But accepting unlabeled and unverified food items cost the restaurant 9 points on the routine inspection, and dropped the health score to a 58/U.

The inspector contacted DeKalb County health officials to verify the distributor’s permit and register a complaint.

In other code violations at Jamaica Jerk Joint, a refrigerator was not working properly and food temperatures were too high. All the food was moved to a working cooler.

Some of the products in the refrigerator were improperly stored. Raw chicken was over cooked beans, and eggs were above ready-to-eat vegetables.

The inspector also said the entire facility needed cleaning. The floors, walls and ceiling were unclean with dust. The steam table and storage units were dirty with old food debris. The facility also had clutter in various areas, the inspector said.

Jamaica Jerk Joint will be re-inspected. Previous scores were 86/B and 84/B.
