Happy Buddha in College Park was able to reopen a day after being closed down due to a roach infestation.

The restaurant at 1457 Virginia Ave., College Park, was given a failing health score of 66/U and closed because roaches were nesting underneath cardboard being improperly used as a shelf cover on the cook line.

Roaches were also found on the cook line, according to the Fulton County health inspector.

Happy Buddha had been given two previous legal notices to have the establishment treated by a licensed pest control company, according to the inspection report. The health inspector ordered the restaurant closed and said the owner had to meet with a senior health inspector over the matter.

The facility was treated for pests, then re-inspected the next day before reopening to serve customers. Pest control treatments will continue twice a month, according to management.

During the routine inspection, points were taken off because foods throughout the kitchen, and meats inside the walk-in freezer, were all uncovered and subject to contamination.

Employees were touching their hair and hats then returning to food prep without washing hands, the inspector said. One employee had no hair restraint. The inspector also found four dented cans of food

Happy Buddha scored 84/B on the follow-up inspection. Points were taken off because food containers and packages in the walk-in cooler were not closed properly and contents were exposed to contamination. Also, prepared foods were dated for disposal.
