A large piece of land in West Cobb that some hoped would become greenspace is instead slated for 198-home subdivision after Cobb Commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve the project, with Commissioner Bob Ott dissenting.
The 120-acre tract off Old Dallas Road, which belongs to the estates of the late Evelyn and Thomas Ellis, is on a list of potential parkspace to be presented to the board later this month, Ott said.
Attorney Garvis Sams, representing Pebblebrook Development, said his client has worked diligently to assuage the concerns of neighbors since The Preserve at Ellis Lake was first announced in August.
The homes will likely be priced between $400,000 and $600,000, he said, and the property, which has two small lakes, will include amenities such as a clubhouse, sports facilities and trails.
Neighbor Frederick Chumley, however, was not impressed. He expressed concerns over traffic and over-development.
“It would be a perfect greenspace to preserve the land for generations to come,” said Chumley, one of two people who came out in opposition to the project.
Ott said he was concerned about the density of the subdivision and unsuccessfully sought to hold the project for 30 days, until after the parks list is presented.
