Senator out of intensive care, still in hospital

April 13, 2010

State Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale), who had been hospitalized since late March, has been released from the intensive care unit at Emory University Hospital, where she was receiving treatment for inflammation to her nervous system.

While out of the ICU, she is still in the hospital. She will likely be released in a few days.

Seay was hospitalized March 28 and has missed a significant portion of this year’s session.

The senator is getting treatment for acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, a neurological disorder characterized by progressive weakness and impaired sensory function in the legs and arms. It is closely related to Guillain-Barré syndrome.
