The state House Committee on Assignments appointed new committee officers.

Rep. Carl Rogers, R-Gainesville, is the new chairman of the Higher Education Committee. Rep. Ann Purcell, R-Rincon, is the new chairman of the Public Safety Committee.

Rep. Penny Houston, R-Nashville, is the new vice chairman of of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development, and Rep. Katie Dempsey, R-Rome, is the new chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources.

Rep. Stephen Allison, R-Blairsville, is the new vice chairman of the Game, Fish and Parks Committee. Rep. Tommy Benton, R-Jefferson, is the new chairman of the Human Relations and Aging Committee, and Rep. Billy Horne, R-Newnan, is the new vice chairman of the Small Business Development and Job Creation Committee.
