Raise a glass to Milton! There's a lot to celebrate.

In fact, the city will provide the drinks to toast with. (It’s the Chamber of Commerce that’s paying for them, though.)

After more than a decade in existence, Milton will hold its first State of the City address at its new city hall.

These affairs usually come with tall glasses of orange juice, or rubber-chicken lunches. But Milton wants to encourage attendance, city spokesperson Shannon Ferguson said. What’s a better way to do that than with a 7 p.m. start time and two free drinks?

“I don’t know that it’s something we’ll do every year,” Ferguson said. But this year, “it’s a little bit special.”

Ferguson said Milton is holding its inaugural address in the evening in order to encourage families to attend. Beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres will be available from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

The Feb. 26 event is free, but anyone who wants to attend should RSVP to info@cityofmiltonga.us with the number of guests. Don’t want to prematurely run out of beverages.

“We’re super excited,” Ferguson said. “We have lots of accomplishments to share.”
