If you live in Marietta and you’re too lazy to Google when your trash collection day is, good news!

The city has launched new features for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant that allow users to ask their virtual assistants about upcoming meetings, city officials, licensing and other services.

First, Alexa users will need to enable the city of Marietta skill by saying “Alexa, enable the City of Marietta skill.” This step is not needed for Google Assistant: users can simply say, “Hey Google, ask the city of Marietta ...”

In an announcement Thursday, the city said the new features were another step in its quest toward becoming a “well-rounded ‘SMART’ city.”

It also provided a list of sample questions for users, including, “Ask the City of Marietta how do I get a building permit,” and “Ask the City of Marietta what are the upcoming events.” Users can also simply say, “Talk to the City of Marietta.”

Residents who wish to submit ideas for other questions can do so on the city’s webpage.
