Nursing homes would be able to honor do-no-resuscitate orders from patients under legislation approved Monday in the Georgia House.

House Bill 275 would add the facilities to places that can honor patients’ orders asking that life-sustaining measures not be taken. Nursing homes currently must take extraordinary measures to preserve a patient’s life, even if he has signed an order.

The bill, which passed 160-1, now heads to the Senate.
