More high-rise office and residential towers are coming to Cumberland.

Cobb Commissioners on Tuesday approved a new mixed-use development to replace the Galleria 75 building at the intersection of Cobb Galleria Parkway and Cumberland Boulevard.

Preferred Apartment Communities will build a 15-story office tower; two 19-story residential towers containing a combined 600 units; and a fourth, smaller building with commercial and retail space.

Attorney John Moore, representing the developer, chalked the new project up to the halo effect of SunTrust Park.

“The Braves coming to this Cumberland Galleria area has shown a light on it that maybe people hadn’t noticed before,” Moore said. “The Braves definitely have an effect on this, there’s no question.”

Moore said his client was still negotiating with potential tenants for the office space.

No one spoke in opposition to the project, which was approved without comment as part of the zoning hearing consent agenda.
