On Monday, Oct. 4, many Xpress commuter buses operated by the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority will raise their fares. Routes more than 25 miles long, like those from Cumming or Canton to downtown Atlanta, will cost $4 one-way and $7 round-trip. Shorter routes will stay at the old fares: $3 one-way and $5 round-trip.

In addition, pass prices will rise for all routes.

GRTA's Xpress program was created without a permanent funding source for operations, and will have to shut down by the end of the next fiscal year without new funding, according to GRTA officials.
