Updated Fulton County property assessments will be sent Aug. 4.

The new notices come after county commissioners decided to keep residential assessments at 2016 values. An outcry from residents who saw their property values increase much more than they expected led to the change.

For some residents, though, the original 2017 values were a relief. About 12,000 people had lower values this year, and will see their values rise again when the new notices are sent.

Additionally, preliminary estimates for the county’s tax digest are out. They indicate the digest is up 4.2 percent over 2016.

Those figures do not account for any appeals, which would likely shrink the digest. It’s now estimated to be $52.4 billion.
