A coalition of Clayton County health and public safety agencies is working together to expand the role of neighborhood watch groups in the county. The Clayton County Board of Health’s Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response is leading the coalition to help make neighborhood watch groups better at fighting crime in their communities and helping the county during times of disasters and emergencies. A Public Health/Neighborhood Watch/Emergency Preparedness seminar will be held Saturday, Sept. 27 in the Azalea Room at the board of health office, 1117 Battle Creek Rd. in Jonesboro. The 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. seminar is the first of four that will take place over the next 10 months. The seminar will cover different disasters, emergency management, dispensing of medicine and vaccines to prevent the spread of the flu or bioterrorism-related illnesses. The health department is working with the Clayton County Emergency Management Agency and county and municipal police departments and first responders. Others are not able to do so, part of why prenatal visit data has gotten worse in recent years. (Natrice Miller/AJC)
