Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren, a Republican, won his reelection bid Tuesday night, defeating Democratic challenger Gregory Gilstrap for a fourth time.

Warren captured more than 50 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results posted by the Cobb elections board.

Warren is best known for his tough stance on illegal immigration, having signed several voluntary agreements with the federal immigrant enforcement agency. He won despite a marked increase in turnout among Hispanic voters in Cobb who oppose his policies.

Gilstrap, a lieutenant with the Morehouse College Police Department, ran as a reformer who would “restore trust,” but he failed to convince a majority of voters.
