Cobb Commissioners have pulled the plug for now on a proposed tax on short-term rentals, such as Airbnb, pending potential state action.

Commissioners said this week that they would wait to see what happens with a bill in the state legislature that would limit local governments’ ability to regulate such rentals.

HB 523 was reintroduced this year after failing to advance in the last session.

It would ban local governments from prohibiting short-term rentals or treating them differently from long-term rentals in any way. That would include requiring registration of some properties but not others.
