Cobb County government offices, courts and schools will close Tuesday as the metro region braces for possible snow.

An arctic cold front is expected to move through North Georgia overnight, bringing a chance of wintry precipitation up to two inches in the Atlanta area.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said Tuesday will be “brutal with the temperatures and the wind.”

The brunt of the impacts are expected between 6 and 9 a.m.

Cobb transportation crews will begin pre-treating roads with a sand/salt mixture around sunrise, with government operations expected to shut down at 6 a.m.

The reopening time will depend on how quickly conditions improve, according to a statement from the county.

"With a great deal of uncertainty about the timing and amount of snow, we thought this proactive action would be best to ensure the safety of Cobb County workers," said County Manager Rob Hosack.

In a statement, the school district said the decision to cancel classes was not taken lightly, but that the safety of students and staff was paramount.
