Carol Porter will be the Democrat who tries to unseat Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle this November. Porter, of Dublin, general manager of a small chain of newspapers, handily defeated her challenger, Tricia Carpenter McCracken, a self-described journalist and researcher from Augusta. She also did much better in her statewide race than her husband, state Rep. DuBose Porter, a longtime Democratic leader in the House, did in his race for governor. Cagle didn't draw a GOP opponent. There will also be a Libertarian candidate.
