A New York fast-food chain specializing in Caribbean fare plans to open three more metro Atlanta stores, two of them on the southside.

Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill will open restaurants in Morrow and McDonough on June 4. The company also is slated to open in Douglasville on June 3. The new restaurants bring the number of Golden Krust stores in Georgia to nine. Golden Krust has 120 franchise restaurants in nine states.

“Georgia has been a strong growth market for the franchise,” Golden Krust CEO Lowell Hawthorne said in a statement.”This region has the highest-grossing stores per unit.”

The restaurants will feature a variety of patties including spicy beef, chicken, and veggie in addition to traditional Jamaican cuisine, soups and desserts.

The company also has a retail division that provides Jamaican patties to New York City public schools, the penal system, military channels and more than 20,000 supermarkets, club stores and dollar stores nationally.

The company was founded in 1989 by Hawthorne, a Jamaican immigrant and his 10 siblings and extended family. The restaurant menu is inspired by recipes passed down from Hawthorne’s father, the family patriarch.
