Gwinnett County Commissioner Mike Beaudreau held a narrow lead in early returns Tuesday as he sought re-election in the race for commission District 3.

Beaudreau led challenger Tommy Hunter in the Republican runoff for the commission district. The winner faces no Democratic opponent in the November general election.

Beaudreau, seeking his third four-year term on the commission, faced a sometimes nasty campaign that featured an ethics complaint and charges that the incumbent could have done more to prevent dubious deals that led three of his colleagues to resign in the last two years.
