One of Atlanta’s oldest elementary schools is now listed as on the National Register of Historic Places.

English Avenue Elementary, which hasn’t been in use since 1995, was placed on the Register March 23.

Built in 1910, the school originally served Western Heights and had an all-white student population until 1950. Alumni include singer Gladys Knight and businessman and former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.
