Stage play: "Harriet Speaks" is a play that depicts the strength of Harriet Tubman, an African-American woman who freed hundreds of slaves via the Underground Railroad. Suicide prevention: The Georgia chapter of the American Foundation will host a SafeTALK training session for suicide prevention at the Phillip Rush Center (1530 DeKalb Ave. N.E., Suite A, Atlanta) from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 1. SafeTALK prepares anyone over the age of 15 to identify people with suicidal thoughts and connects them to resources. The fee is $15 and includes materials and snacks. Of note: Robert D. Lupton is a minister, author and founder of Focused Community Strategies, an organization that partners with underserved neighborhoods to provide housing and more. Lupton's 40-plus years of work have been primarily in the inner cities of Atlanta. His latest book is called "Charity Detox: What Charity Would Look Like If We Cared About Results," and PBS featured him in a program about rebuilding urban neighborhoods.
