What do you get when you bring 1,000 entrepreneurs and activists together for two days of inspiration and connection?

Jeff Shinabarger hopes the result will be innovative ways to address some of the country's biggest problems.

"Entrepreneurs are constantly seeking sound advice or wise counsel because they know ideas and solutions are not built by one person, but a community of people who believe in the power of united vision, " said Shinabarger, founder of the nonprofit Plywood People.

The seventh annual Plywood Presents conference will be held Wednesday and Thursday at The Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St. N.W. The conference begins Wednesday with a reception at 5:30 p.m.

Speakers include Gregory Ellison, associate professor of pastoral care and counseling at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology; Hank Fortener, founder of World Adoption Day; Ron Clark, author and founder of the Ron Clark Academy; Safia Minney, founder of People Tree; Kim Biddle, founder of Saving Innocence; and U.S. Rep. John Lewis.

Plywood Presents will also host the idea competition in which five startups with creative plans to meet social needs both locally and internationally will compete for a chance to win cash prizes, mentorship and business services.

Tickets range from $299 for individuals to $2,900 for a table of 10 (not including fees). Student tickets are $99 minus fees. Registration is open through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
