The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is having a birthday.
And it’s celebrating with some big names in hip hop.
The center is hosting “Get Centered”, an event that will explore hip hop’s past and its present impact on the civil rights movement.
Panelists include Killer Mike; Speech from Arrested Development; Stic of Dead Prez; David Wall Rice, associate professor and chairman of the psychology department at Morehouse College; and Toni Backman, a performer and writer. Rohit Malhotra of the Center for Civic Innovation will moderate the discussion.
The event, which is being held in conjunction with the A3C Festival & Conference, will be held from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. June 23 at 100 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd. N.W.
It will include a performance by Soul Food Cypher. DJ Jelly, DJ Nabs and Jaycee have all prepared sets highlighting records that exemplify political, socially conscious and progressive movements.
Tickets range from $20 to $100 for VIP access.
