Television producer and blogger Pamela Berger finds that living in Ormewood Park offers freedom, from a home design viewpoint.

“You don’t have to worry about what color your blinds are or if your home is going to match your neighbors fence. You can be creative as you like and express yourself how you choose,” said Berger, who writes about home décor and Southern artistry at www.sweetpeachblog.com.

She often works on her sleeping porch, which was added to the back of her home and has a queen-sized bed.

“As I don’t have much natural light in my house, I find myself out here everyday, either working on my computer or relaxing on the hanging bed,” she said. “It’s the most peaceful room in the house and I can easily spend most of my day out here.”

Other design blogs, such as decor8blog.com, desiretoinspire.net and Apartmenttherapy.com, are a source of inspiration and often a way to discover new artists and buy affordable, one-of-a-kind items for her home.

“I like to incorporate wallpaper, a mix of old and new furniture, books, family photographs, garage sale finds and unique artwork,” she said.

Resident: Pamela Berger

Location: Ormewood Park

Size: About 1,100 square feet in size; two bedrooms, one bath

Year built: 1925

Year bought: 2006

Architectural style: Craftsman bungalow

Favorite architectural feature: The screened-in sleeping porch. "It's a great place to be on a Sunday morning reading the paper or working on my blog."

Interior design style: Mix and match, on a budget. She has decorated her home in items purchased at garage sales, boutiques and online. "The one bit of advice I'd give to someone who wants to give their home a new look is to have patience and not try to buy everything at once. Only buy items that you love and try to mix and match styles so it doesn't look like all your furniture has come from one store. You want your space to be homey and personable, and that takes time."

Favorite design feature: The hallway between her bedroom and the guest room, which has pink polka dot wallpaper she saw on designsponge.com. She used it as a backdrop to bring an upbeat feel to the space, Berger said. "I then added some treasured photos, books and old mirrors that I found at a garage sale. This hallway was one of the first spaces I decorated when I moved into the home. Making over that one wall made such a huge difference, I was addicted to transforming every room after that."

Favorite outdoor feature: The sitting area on her front porch. "The chairs and the swing make it a great place to hang and unwind with friends and it gets great light at sunset."
