Misao Okawa was born on March 5, 1898, in Osaka, Japan, and was proclaimed the oldest person in the world by Guiness World Records two years ago.

Okawa eats three times daily and sleeps eight hours a night, according to the head of the retirement home where she lives.

Her favorite meal is sushi, "particularly mackerel on vinegar-steamed rice, and she has it at least once every month," Tomohito Okada told Guinness.

In previous years, Okawa credited her eating and sleeping habits with her longevity but this year, she said she wonders about that herself.

Okawa’s hearing has worsened but she is “in otherwise good health,” her caretakers told Guinness.

Guinness reports that the oldest person who ever lived was also a woman — Jeanne Calment, of France. She lived to the age of 122 years and 164 days.
