"In less than two weeks, our small, four-restaurant test of Gilroy Garlic Fries has been a huge success, and we are now experiencing a temporary shortage of supplies,"  the fast-food restaurant told CNBC Monday.

The Twitter account for McDonald's restaurants in the area tweeted a similar statement Saturday.

The fries are made with a puree that includes "world-famous garlic from Gilroy, California," according to a May 3 McDonald's news release.

Ingredients include garlic, olive oil, Parmesan cheese, parsley and salt.

SFGate reported that if the fries are received well, they would be expanded to menus at all 250 McDonald's locations in the Bay Area in August.

If the shortage of supplies is any indication, the expansion may be coming soon.
