Airbnb says Georgia destination is among top places for Fourth of July travel

While the Fourth of July celebrations will look different this year amid the coronavirus outbreak, people remain eager for a bit of adventure.

As people make plans to travel this holiday weekend, one of the top destinations is right here in Georgia, according to Airbnb.

The vacation rental company announced Monday that the Blue Ridge Mountains are among the top trending destinations for travel for the Fourth of July weekend.

Searches of listings in the Blue Ridge Mountains are up 15% compared to the same time last year, according to Airbnb.

Ahead of the busy travel weekend, the company says it has been encouraging hosts in the Blue Ridge Mountains area and beyond to take extra health precautions to ensure safe trips for guests.

When travelers are searching for places to spend their summer vacations, there are some driving trends.

According to Airbnb, their customers are searching for places that are pet-friendly and have amenities like a pool, air conditioning and WiFi.

The company also notes that they’ve seen increased interest in cabins overall, which could explain some of the appeal in north Georgia.

“Cabins are among the most-searched listing type for trips during Fourth of July Weekend — a trend that has been going strong for the past two months,” the company said in an emailed statement. “In early May, cabins were the second most-searched listing type in the US.”
