R&B superstar Usher performed at the Dreamville Festival over the weekend, and the performer decided to pull a little prank on his captivated audience. In honor of April Fools, Usher joked that Beyoncé would be making a surprise appearance. While Usher pulled off the joke smoothly in front of the crowd, Dreamville Festival goers and social media posters alike let the music icon know how bummed they were that “Queen Bey” would not be taking to the stage.
“You know, I don’t know if you guys listened to some of the interviews that I did before we decided to do this show, but as promised I said I would have a special surprise for you tonight, ladies and gentlemen,” Usher said on stage, WBLS reported.
“You guys wanna know what that surprise is? Ladies and gentlemen, without further adieu, put your hands together for the one, the only, Beyoncé.”
The crowd quickly transformed from quiet and captivated to a cheering and elated audience. The bait was set, and Usher was quick to spring the trap.
“April Fools!” Usher said.
Usher eventually made good on his promise that the crowd would get a surprise. While Beyoncé did not grace the stage, Usher did bring out City Girls to join in for their song “Good Love.”
Social media commenters were quick to offer their thoughts on Usher’s April Fools prank after the performer posted the stunt on Instagram.
“We trusted you!” One user joked.
“Do you understand how amazing your set had to be for the crowd not to be pressed about this!” another top comment said.
“That was not funny, ok?” another jested. “But I’m still coming to see you June 24th!”
