When season 13 of “The Talk” premiered, co-host Sheryl Underwood had a different look, thanks to her 90-pound weight loss.

Two years ago, Underwood shared that she weighed between 230 to 250 pounds. “My lab work: diabetic, pre-diabetic, hypertension, all the things that you hear, especially with women,” she told PEOPLE.

At 58 and standing at about 5′2″, the comedian shares that she was taking Metamucil on a daily basis to help clean her gut and digestive system, and she revealed that she was considering gastric bypass surgery.

As concerns over her health grew, Underwood — who is a caregiver to her disabled sister — put together an action plan and started making necessary lifestyle changes.

“I went and got the endoscopy too — that’s when my other doctor said, ‘I got something I want you to try, and if it doesn’t work, then we have to go to gastric bypass surgery,’” said Underwood.

Her doctor introduced her to Wegovy, an injection known to mimic a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.

Wegovy is FDA approved and helps reduce inflammation, regulate digestion and improve metabolic function, along with suppressing appetite. The weight loss injection can interfere with other medications, so talking to your doctor can help determine if it’s right for you.

In addition to the injections, Underwood worked with a dietician to work on portion control and developing healthier habits.

“Drinking more water. I’m eating fruit and vegetables that I never thought: green, leafy. I’m getting into eating blueberries and eating strawberries, and also getting more fiber in my diet with fiber supplements,” explined Underwood.
