Drive 4 hours away from Atlanta to get the best pizza in Georgia

Pizza is probably the most popular food in the universe. But what about the toppings?

There are plenty of tasty pizzas you can find in metro Atlanta, but sometimes, it’s worth the drive to find the perfect cheesy bite.

Food & Wine recently compiled a list of the best pizzas in every state. Senior editor David Landsel tasted the majority of the pies to finalize the selections.

“How did we make this list? While there was a certain amount of collaboration, in the end, most of the tasting fell to me, a native New Yorker with decades of experience eating pizza all across the country,” he wrote. “I’ve lived everywhere from Chicago to Los Angeles to Seattle to New England, and over time I’ve learned that I have no specific style preference. The kind of pizza I like best is pizza, and I will try all of it, at least once.”

The publication’s list included the top 10 states where you can get the best pizza. While Georiga didn’t make the cut — and spoiler, New Jersey was the first on the list, not New York — it was still included in the overall list for a pizza spot in Savannah.

Pizzeria Vittoria is the Hostess City of the South’s first Neapolitan pizzeria. The eatery at 2411 De Soto Ave is in the center of the Starland District.

“Need proof that good pizza can and does happen pretty much anywhere in America?” Food & Wine said. “Take a little trip down to Savannah, where you will find Pennsylvania native Kyle Jacovino fastidiously recreating the Neapolitan pizzas of his Italian travel dreams at Pizzeria Vittoria, which operates out of a shipping container, facing a beautiful garden courtyard, in a part of Savannah tourists have yet to overrun. These pizzas, very often works of art, might have been the last thing you were expecting to eat in this city; right now, they ought to be near the top of your list.”

Taking note of the inclusion on Food & Wine’s list, Pizzeria Vittoria recently posted about the recognition on Facebook.

“It was a dream to finally open a pizzeria two years ago but never really thought we would be recognized nationally as one of the best. We’re humbled to represent Georgia and to be on a list with so many talented pizzaiolo’s across the country,” it said in part.

Pizzeria Vittoria’s designation as the top pizza joint in Georgia comes about a month after Insider crowned a metro Atlanta spot the best in the Peach State. Antico Pizza Napoletana has locations in Atlanta, Cumberland and Alpharetta. Much like Pizzeria Vittoria, Antico specializes in pies with Italian flavors.
