Atlanta’s own Chris Bridges, aka Ludacris, took a minute to chat with us about his new album which was released earlier this month.

“Battle of the Sexes” currently at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (it hit No. 1 last week), features Ludacris (who also goes by Luda) and a cast of artists ranging from Nicki Minaj and Monica to Ne-Yo and Flo Rida engaging in a lyrical “battle.” Luda says he likes to give his albums a theme and this time it was all about the guys and girls.

“I love being unorthodox. I felt that it was something that hasn’t been done before where you get both a male and female perspective,” said Luda by phone. “I really feel like a lot of women [rappers] have catered too much to what they feel men want to hear, or they try to rap like men or they talk about things that men talk about.”

Luda says female rappers would get a lot more leverage if they just spoke from a female perspective. “We haven’t heard any women talk about being a single mother or talk about the female fight in such a long time,” he said. "The last person to do that successfully and hit the nail on the head was Lauryn Hill and that was half-singing and half-rapping.”

With regard to “Sexting” the album's bonus track that mocks Tiger Woods’ frantic call to his mistress, Luda is matter-of-fact. It was, he said, his effort to tap into the zeitgeist.

“[Sexting] is something I feel like is going on with all of mainstream America behind closed doors. Tiger is the face of sexting right now. If I am making fun of Tiger Woods, I am making fun of myself,” said Luda, who has no idea if Woods has heard the song or not.

However, Luda, who is celebrating the second anniversary of his midtown restaurant Straits as well as working on a venture with Conjure cognac, wouldn't tell us who he has been sexting.

"That’s private to a certain degree," he said. "Some things aren't meant to be shared."
