It turns out that Frances Bean Cobain is not a big fan of her late father’s band, Nirvana.
In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone, Kurt Cobain's daughter talks about her musical tastes, the upcoming documentary about her dad and her personal feelings growing up being the daughter of the grunge icon.
When discussing the HBO documentary, “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck,” of which she serves as an executive producer, Frances Bean Cobain calls it “emotional journalism.” She says she didn’t want her father’s story to be turned into mythology or romanticized, claiming that Kurt did not want to be the voice of a generation. The documentary is set to air on May 4.
Frances Bean admits to not being a big fan of the grunge music that her father created with Nirvana. She says she is more into bands like Mercury Rev and Oasis.
Still, Frances Bean admits that she could not escape her father’s musical presence, because his songs would play on the radio all of the time. There is one Nirvana song that she is fond of, which is “Dumb.” She says the song is a “stripped-down version of Kurt’s perception of himself.”
