Movie projects are stacked up like pancakes at IHOP these days.
The “Dumb and Dumber” sequel, the “Hunger Games” three-quel and the “Fast & Furious” sept-equel (is that a word?) all are filming in Atlanta. Here’s your rundown of who’s doing what, where and when.
First, "Dumb and Dumber To." (Not two. To. It's more hilarious that way.) The latest gem from the filmmaking Farrelly brothers, who also shot "Hall Pass" and "The Three Stooges" in Atlanta, has been filming in Cabbagetown this week and heads south and west to the town of Grantville next week. Jeff Daniels, who posted this photo of himself and co-star Jim Carrey in character, has been spotted a couple of times since getting to town. He was at Stats over the weekend and had dinner at Watershed last week.
"Mockingjay," the third in the "Hunger Games" series, cranked up this week as well, filming downtown in the Georgia Dome area before heading indoors for soundstage work. Word is the huge project also is eyeing industrial sites south of Atlanta as well as bucolic spots in the North Georgia mountains for additional scenes. While Oscar-winning star Jennifer Lawrence has shown up a couple of times already (the servers at Del Frisco's Grille were blown away by how gracious she was during a recent visit), the national celebrity media seems more far more eager for glimpses of Miley Cyrus' former beau, Liam Hemsworth. One stargazing website posted a collection of more than 20 pictures of Hemsworth standing around outside his hotel, waiting for a ride to the set this week. In one frame, he leans against a wall. Exciting stuff.
Finally, “Fast & Furious 7” (SEVEN!) has filmed at Historic Oakland Cemetery, in the Centennial Olympic Park area and at a southwest Atlanta correctional facility. The latest addition to this billion-dollar franchise also will film at the Fort Gillem site in Forest Park and in a huge industrial facility just off I-85 in Norcross. From approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, F&F VII will film downtown, affecting numerous streets, according to a notice sent to affected residents and businesses. The action is scheduled to take place on Decatur Street between Peachtree Street and Piedmont Avenue; Peachtree Center Avenue between Edgewood Avenue and Wall Street; Pryor Street between Edgewood and Wall Street; Kimball Street between Decatur and Lower Wall streets; Forsyth Street between Marietta and Nelson streets; and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Peachtree and Spring streets. The production company will have off-duty Atlanta Police Department officers on hand to direct traffic.
