World-famous Hollywood superstar and Pittsburgh-native Joe Manganiello visited with patients at Children’s Hospital.
Manganiello, who grew up in the Pittsburgh area and attended Carnegie Mellon University, is helping the hospital celebrate its 125th anniversary.
"I think it would be easy to assume that I would be there to cheer them up," Manganiello said. "Being around the positive attitudes that these kids have cheers me up."
During his visit, Manganiello played pool, scrabble and mingled with the patients in the hospital lounge, as well at some patients' rooms. He attributed the patients' high spirits to the character of Pittsburghers.
"It's a city with a lot of pride," Manganiello said.
In addition to spending time with patients on Wednesday, Manganiello will be the honorary chair at the "Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation's 125th Anniversary Gala" Friday night at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
The gala will be a celebration of the community's philanthropic support that has helped Children's Hospital become one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the nation.
Manganiello is known to be very proud of his Pittsburgh roots.
He often talks about the Steel City and is a big supporter of Pittsburgh sports teams.
Manganiello is engaged to actress Sofia Vergara. The couple, who got engaged on Christmas Eve last year, have visited Pittsburgh several times since then.
