Disney officials are set to debut their first Latina princess, Elena of Avalor, next year.

The new princess will make a special appearance on "Sofia the First," a hit show for preschoolers, in 2016 and then transition into her own series, named after her, on Disney Junior.

The character is a compassionate teenager in an enchanted fairytale kingdom. Aimee Carrero will voice the character, according to a report.

Disney hopes that her story inspired the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families.
