Southbound opens in Chamblee
After a series of delays and chef changes, Southbound finally opened last week in Chamblee. Currently, the new restaurant from Dennis Lange and Mike Plummer is serving only weekday lunch. But Mihoko Obunai is the chef during the 11 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday hours, and devotees of her work at Repast, Joli Kobe and So Ba are already lining up to try the menu. Look for a daily soup, salads, sandwiches such as blackened grouper BLT, and a small selection of entrees. Lange reports that Southbound will open for dinner soon, with former Watershed sous chef Ryan Smith (not Ryan Smith of the Giving Kitchen) in the kitchen. 5394 Peachtree Road, Chamblee. facebook.com/southboundatlanta.
Hyatt Polaris reopening June 10
Polaris, the historic rotating restaurant and lounge perched 22 stories atop the Hyatt Regency Atlanta hotel, is set to return to operation next week. In celebration, the hotel will turn off, then relight the familiar Polaris blue dome before the official opening to the public on June 10. The new Polaris, a 10-year project for the Hyatt Regency with design by the Johnson Studio, will serve craft cocktails and shared plates in a retro-modern atmosphere that offers panoramic views of the downtown skyline and beyond. 265 Peachtree St. N.E., Atlanta. 404-577-1234, atlantaregency.hyatt.com.

The Orpheus founder and brewmaster, Jason Pellett, and his business partners, Andrew Lorber and Will Arnold, join the new wave of small breweries surfacing all over Atlanta. Look for Belgian-style beers, including Atalanta, a tart saison with fresh plum juice, and Serpent Bite, a dry-hopped saison. Ian Cox moving to the Luminary
Ian Cox confirmed last week that he will soon leave his job as the bar manager at the Wrecking Bar Brewpub in Inman Park to take on the bar program at the Luminary. The American-style brasserie from former "Top Chef" contestant Eli Kirshtein is set to be the first restaurant to open in Krog Street Market, the new food concept scheduled to debut later this summer. Cox, an award-winning mixologist who presented at the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival last week, said he was grateful for his time at the Wrecking Bar, excited to move on to a new challenge, and looking forward to spending more time behind the bar. krogstreetmarket.com.
