Hot Little Biscuit Atlanta

On Dec. 31, owner Carrie Morey opened the second location of her popular Callie's Hot Little Biscuit bake shop in Virginia-Highland. The original debuted in 2014 in the Upper King District of Charleston, S.C., serving the likes of cinnamon, blackberry and country ham biscuits, bowls of grits, and French press coffee. Morey founded the much celebrated Callie's Charleston Biscuits in 2005, selling packaged Southern-style buttermilk biscuits made from the recipe passed down from her mother, Charleston caterer Callie White. 1004 N. Highland Ave., Atlanta. 843-737-5159, calliesbiscuits.com.

BeetleCat in Inman Park

BeetleCat, which opened in late December in the Inman Quarter mixed-use development in Inman Park, is the 10th Atlanta restaurant from chef/restaurateur Ford Fry. Similar in style to Fry's popular Westside seafood spot, the Optimist, BeetleCat is pitched as an easygoing, no-reservations cocktail lounge and oyster bar, with a retro '70s and '80s vibe and a kitschy downstairs den-meets-rumpus room. Look for a small plate menu of raw and cooked seafood, a special lunch menu on Fridays, and late-night hours on the weekends. 299 N. Highland Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 678-732-0360, beetlecatatl.com.

Alfredo’s closing in 2016

After 41 years in business on Cheshire Bridge Road, Alfredo's will close in 2016, and the building will be demolished to make way for a new luxury apartment development, owner Perry Alvarez recently confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Beloved as a throwback to old-school Italian-American red sauce joints, Alfredo's joins several other metro classics that will be missed this year, including the Brickery in Sandy Springs, which closed in December. 1989 Cheshire Bridge Road N.E., Atlanta. 404-876-1380, alfredosatlanta.com.
