City Tavern open in Kennesaw

Kemal Karsli, owner of the Sivas (formerly Cafe Mezo) in Midtown, has joined with chef Harry Pagancoss, host of the television travelogue show "GPS: Guided by Flavors," to open City Tavern, "a sports bar and gastropub featuring contemporary American cuisine," in Kennesaw. With lunch, dinner, late night and weekend brunch hours, the sprawling menu ranges from pizza, burgers and tacos to entrees such as skirt steak and grilled sea bass. According to a press release, City Tavern is the second of four restaurants being opened by Karsli and Pagancoss. Cowfish coming to Perimeter Mall

North Carolina-based the Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar is set to open its first metro Atlanta location at Perimeter Mall in April. On the menu are traditional and fusion sushi rolls, craft burgers, sashimi, nigiri, bento boxes, appetizers, salads, handcrafted cocktails, craft beers, hand-spun milkshakes and homemade desserts. But the signature cow/fish items are a "cutting-edge fusion of burger and sushi," called "burgushi," which include "sushi rolls created using burger components, and pick-up-style sandwiches created using sushi components." Scout slated to open in Decatur

Scout, a new restaurant and bar from Chris Martha, is slated to open in early summer in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur at the historic Neel Reid-designed Scottish Rite building on West Hill Street. Martha, a longtime Atlanta restaurateur and beverage manager, who most recently created Proof & Provision at the Georgian Terrace hotel, lives in Oakhurst with his family. “We’re going to be providing an experience that draws on Southern ingredient-driven cooking using local and regional products in different ways,” Martha told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week. “We’re also going to have a great bar atmosphere, with fun cocktails, cool seasonal beers and a thoughtful wine list.”

Atlanta James Beard Award finalists

Sometimes called the Oscars of the culinary world, the James Beard Foundation's restaurant and chef award winners will be announced on May 2 at a ceremony in Chicago.
