• Profile: The photo of the circus strongman on the label of Smuttynose Robust Porter is as evocative as the beer in the bottle. And robust is a great description for this full-bodied brew, with a distinctive burnt flavor of dark-roasted malt and hops that show up in a burst of sharp citrus. Notes of coffee, chocolate, toffee and a touch of smoke mingle in the aroma and flavor. Smuttynose only recently began distributing its beers in Georgia. In addition to Robust Porter, look for the company's popular Shoals Pale Ale and Old Brown Dog Ale.

• Pair with: The predominant roasted character of Robust Porter makes it a good match for char-grilled steaks. But it would also make an interesting pairing with oysters, barbecue and Mexican dishes with smoked chiles. And for dessert, the coffee flavor is a tasty combo with chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream.
