MARIETTA

“Mount Pleasant Homecoming” at Theatre in the Square

The main stage at Theatre in the Square is ringing with the sounds of bluegrass and gospel. It’s a family musical comedy following the further, post-war adventures of the Sanders family. This time around, the Rev. Oglethorpe and June Sanders, who met and got engaged in the first two installments, have one in the oven. Fans of foot-stomping roots music should appreciate this Bible belt rave-up. The theater company recommends it for ages 10 and older.

8 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays; 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays. $25-$35. Theatre in the Square, 11 Whitlock Ave., Marietta. 770-422-8369, www.theatreinthesquare.com.

CHATTAHOOCHEE HILLS

“The Ugly Duckling” at Serenbe Playhouse

The folks at Serenbe Playhouse take a look at the current bullying epidemic through the lens of a timeless kids tale. Joanna Brooks, Brian Clowdus, Chip Epsten and Rachel Teagle, in collaboration with Brooks & Co., have created a contemporary adaptation of “The Ugly Ducking” they say resonates with both children and adults. Don’t expect a typical kiddie production. The set is built out into a lake at Serenbe, which finds the half-human, half-bird actors and dancers literally making a splash.

2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 28; 2 p.m. July 15, 22 and 29. $10-$15. Serenbe Playhouse, 9110 Selborne Lane, Suite 210, Chattahoochee Hills. 770-463-1110, www.serenbeplayhouse.com.
