Special Olympics Art Auction at Woodland Manor
Need something to hang on the wall? This event gives you the opportunity to fill the space with a purpose. The auction benefits Special Olympics Georgia and offers a host of art and collectibles up for grabs. Regency Fine Art provides the goods, including reproductions of familiar pieces by Rockwell, Dali, Chagall and others. Memorabilia runs the gamut from a signed Peyton Manning game-worn jersey to a guitar featuring the signatures of the band Bon Jovi. A silent auction boasts approximately 60 items. Hotel packages, restaurant and spa gift certificates, and gift baskets are just a few of what’s available. It all takes place in a model home that’s currently on the market. Admission includes a home tour, beer and wine, appetizers and the chance to win door prizes. A Special Olympics athlete will be telling her own story of success. The funds raised will help Special Olympics Georgia provide free year-round sports training and competitions for more than 23,000 Georgia-based athletes with intellectual disabilities.
7 p.m. March 24. $40. 7775 Stratford Lane, Sandy Springs. 770-414-9390 ext. 102, www.specialolympicsga.org/support/special-events/art-auction/.
HIRAM
Nacho Daddy’s Karaoke Show at Buffalo’s Cafe
Wannabe country crooners typically flock here to sing the hits. Armchair Kenny Chesneys and Taylor Swifts step out of the shower and onto the stage. Yet the song selection isn’t stuck in that genre. Nacho Daddy’s Karaoke Show brings with it a roster of more than 50,000 songs. Cage, the event’s host, says other singers often venture into rock, pop and hip-hop territory, from Gaga to Green Day. The musical mash-up happens in the restaurant’s saloon where suds crown the tops of glasses and hot sauce mustaches, courtesy of chicken wings, remain in style.
9 p.m. Saturdays. Free. Buffalo’s Cafe, 5380 Wendy Bagwell Parkway, Hiram. 770-439-2831, www.buffaloscafe.com.
ROSWELL
Joanna Cotten and Greg Barnhill at Swallow at the Hollow
These Nashville songwriters give an intimate performance typically reserved for Music City. Barnhill and his pen have provided tunes for the likes of Tim McGraw, Vince Gill, Martina McBride, Etta James and others. His Grammy nomination came for his song “Walkaway Joe,” made famous by Trisha Yearwood and Don Henley. Cotten’s songwriting cred remains equally impressive, including one of her tunes making it on the “For Colored Girls” soundtrack, “I Know Who I Am” by Leona Lewis. The pair will not only play a barrage of familiar cuts, but also tell the stories behind the songs.
10 p.m. March 24. $15. Swallow at the Hollow, 1072 Green St., Roswell. 678-352-1975, www.swallowatthehollow.com.
