Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey has died at 67, the band said.
He had been battling intestinal issues for months.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016," The band said in a statement on their Facebook page. "Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery."
In November, the Eagles postponed tour dates and their Kennedy Honors ceremony so that Frey could have surgery.
A statement released by the band at the time said Frey "has had a recurrence of previous intestinal issues, which will require major surgery and a lengthy recovery period."
The Eagles were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. The band's biography on the site says Frey was a "was a rocker from Detroit who headed to Los Angeles," where the band formed.
Frey co-wrote many of the Eagles hits, including "Hotel California," and "Heartache Tonight."

Frey is survived by his wife, Cindy Millican, whom he married in 1990, daughter Taylor Trey, and sons Deacon Frey and Otis Frey.
