Bill Cosby seems to have cheated death – for a fourth time.
He is just the latest victim in a series of death hoaxes circulating on the Internet. This is the fourth time, Cosby told Larry King Monday night.
America’s favorite dad tweeted to his followers that he is debunking his rumored death.
“Again, I'm rebuttaling rumors about my demise,” Cosby said.
Monday, the AJC reported that "Pants on the Ground" singer General Larry Platt wasn’t dead, despite several Internet sites claiming he was.
Death hoaxes are nothing new.
According to FOX News, celebrity death hoaxes date back at least to 1966 with the alleged death of Paul McCartney. It was widely believed that McCartney died in a car accident and a lookalike replacement was hired.
Other celebrities ranging from talk show host Oprah Winfrey to rocker Alice Cooper have been the subject of death hoaxes over the year.
But just exactly where do these hoaxes come from?
No one seems to know for sure, but entire books have been devoted to the subject. One of them, "Hippo Eats Dwarf: A Field Guide to Hoaxes and Other B.S." by Alex Boese, explores alleged celebrity deaths and celebrities that are in fact dead but believed by some to be living, such as rapper Tupac Shakur and Elvis.
