FRIDAY

Stage: The 1983 film "Flashdance" becomes a stage musical and plays the Fox Theatre Feb. 5-10. See our interview with the show's writer.

Visual arts: "Georgia Nature Photographers' Association: The Art of the Landscape" is on view at the Chattahoochee Nature Center through Feb. 15.

Film festival: The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival continues through Feb. 20 at several movie theaters around town.

Performing arts, families: The Big Apple Circus returns to town in a new venue after a two-year absence.  It runs through Feb. 18 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta. Take a look at our preview of the circus. 

Stage: Alliance Theatre Company presents Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire's dramatic comedy "Good People." It continues through Feb. 10 at the Woodruff Arts Center. Read our review of the show.

Stage: "Fly" follows the African-American Army Air Corps fighters who flew during World War II. The play is presented by Theatrical Outfit at the Balzer Theater at Herren's and runs through Feb. 24.

Stage: "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson" is a re-imagining of our seventh president as a rock 'n roll maverick. The Actor's Express continues through Feb. 17. The play is part of a round-up of upcoming productions on Atlanta stages. Read our review of the musical.

Stage: Aurora Theatre presents "Bob," chronicling the mythic adventures of a dreamer born and abandoned in the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant. It runs through Feb. 10. Check out our review of the show.

Stage: Horizon Theatre Company presents an encore run of its successful 2011 show "The Waffle Palace: Smothered, Covered & Scattered 24/7/365." It runs through Feb. 17. 

Stage: Atlanta Shakespeare Company's annual production of "Romeo and Juliet," the classic tale of star-crossed lovers, continues through March 20 at the New American Shakespeare Tavern.

Stage: The Polk Street Players present "Let's Murder Marsha" through Feb. 9 at St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta.

Music: Spend an Evening with Patterson Hood as the Drive-By Trucker does a solo acoustic show at 10 p.m. Feb. 8 at Eddie's Attic. He'll bring along a band for the following night's show at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.

Stage: "Visiting Mr. Green" continues through Feb. 17. The play is presented by Stage Door Players at the North Dekalb Cultural Arts Center in Dunwoody.

Comedy: Actress and comedian Caroline Rhea takes the stage at the Punchline Feb. 8-9.

Stage: "9 to 5" is a musical based on the film starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. It's the latest production from the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone and runs through Feb. 17.

Dance: Atlanta Ballet's "Dracula," a tale of seductive horror, returns in time for Valentine's Day. See it at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Feb. 8-16.

Music: Ted Howe re-creates the music of one of pop's greats with "An Evening Of Elton John" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 and 9 at the Velvet Note in Alpharetta.

Music: Saxophonist Victor Goines and the Gary Motley Trio perform at the Emory Jazz Fest at 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at Emory University's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts.

SATURDAY

Festival, families: Fernbank Museum of Natural History hosts "Butterfly Bash," a butterfly-inspired day featuring live butterflies, crafts and more. It takes place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 9.

Recreation: Hit the slopes at Snow Mountain, where it's always a winter wonderland. The annual attraction at Stone Mountain Park continues through Feb. 18.

Festival: Check out the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival at the Atlanta Chinese Culture Center in Chamblee Feb. 9 and 10.

Music: It's a night of R&B romance with Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill, Eddie Levert and El DeBarge. The show begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center.

Music: Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis comes to Atlanta Symphony Hall on the big band's 25th anniversary tour. The concert stars at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.

Music: Irish eyes are sure to smile at the thought of spending an evening with Ronan Tynan. He'll perform at Spivey Hall at 8:15 p.m. Feb. 9.

Comedy: Understate comedian Steven Wright performs at the Variety Playhouse beginning at 8 p.m. Feb. 9.

Visual arts: The 14th Annual Art Papers Art Auction and Party gets under way at 7 p.m. Feb. 9, but there will be a collectors' preview at 7 p.m. Feb. 8. The preview entrance is $190 (which includes a ticket to Saturday night auction). It's happening at Mason Murer Fine Art.

SUNDAY

Music: The annual Winter Jam tour brings together some of contemporary Christian music's biggest artists. This year's line-up includes TobyMac, Red, Matthew West, Jamie Grace and Sidewalk Prophets and starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at Philips Arena.

Music: Kaleidoscope, an ensemble of the Michael O'Neal Singers presents "Songs for All Seasons" at 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church.

Music: Lauda Musicam presents "Love Music of the Renaissance" at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Covington.

Music: The William Baker Festival Singers perform works by Mozart and his American contemporaries at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at St. Benedict's Episcopal Church in Smyrna.

Music: The Graffe String Quartet is joined by pianist and Clayton State College faculty member Michiko Otaki at 3 p.m. in Spivey Hall in Morrow.
