Mama Mia's, the pizza and wing joint on Broad Street in Downtown Atlanta, got called out in social media this weekend when someone posted a shot of the restaurant's Pepsi themed patio to Reddit .
Comments poured in decrying Pepsi (and the pizza at Mama Mia's), before the conversation turned to people sharing tales of just how things are run in Coca-Cola country.
The stories typically starred a relative, friend or other associate who works at or once worked at Coca-Cola and was written up for bringing Pepsi or Pepsi related products (anything owned by Yum Brands which includes Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC) on the corporate campus of Coca-Cola.
Some commenters even dragged poor RC Cola, which was founded in Columbus, and Shasta (founded in California) into the cola wars.
The photo shows the patio of Mama Mia's which is filled with blue tables and Pepsi branded umbrellas.
Mama Mia's, a family owned and operated business since 2009, was previously owned by a family from New York. When a new owner took over several years ago, Pepsi stayed on the menu. The business caters primarily to college students as well as Pepsi lovers looking for a fix.
The battle between Pepsi and Coke intensified this summer when Coke bested Pepsi winning a contract from Sandy-Springs based Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. Arby's will begin serving Coca-Cola products in 2018 .
In 2002, Regal Cinemas shifted from Pepsi products to Coca-Cola as did Subway restaurants in 2003.
In 2013, Costco made the switch from Coke to Pepsi in all of its food service locations . It was just a few years after Costco had removed Coke products from store shelves due to pricing issues. The company said the switch to Pepsi had nothing to do with the previous dispute.
